A Night to Remember: Our First Charity Gig with The Altonators
On Saturday, 4th January, at the Greystones pub in Sheffield, we were thrilled to host our very first charity gig, featuring the incredible Altonators.
But then… something happened…
The weather forecast took a dramatic turn, predicting heavy snowfall starting during the gig. Given the pub's location at the top of a steep hill, this sparked some serious debate between us, the band, and the venue. Should we cancel and play it safe, or take the risk and hope for the best?
In the end, we decided to go for it—despite the daunting forecast—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
As the evening unfolded, people began arriving for the gig. Anna even rallied a few more attendees from the pub. We quickly pulled together a raffle, and then it was time for The Altonators to take the stage.
And WOW—what a performance! The band absolutely blew us away, playing a set packed with classics that had everyone smiling, a few of us dancing, and, for a little while, we all forgot about the weather entirely.
The first snowflake didn’t fall until 10 PM—perfect timing, as the band was loading the last of their gear into the van. Everyone made it home safely, and to top it all off, we raised over £500 to support our new classes for refugees with hearing impairments. How incredible is that?
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who braved the weather to join us, to The Greystones for being such gracious hosts, and, of course, to The Altonators for putting on a spectacular show that kicked off 2025 with a bang. Here's to more nights like this!
