If a group class is too difficult to get to or attend, whether that’s down to location, childcare or something else, one to one tuition might be just what you need.
For those students for whom attending our group classes is not possible, we offer one-to-one tuition. We offer both face to face and online teaching (or a combination of both). We offer courses at all levels and would complete an initial needs assessment to help us to develop a tailored scheme of work for the individual student. This would then be delivered in the learner's home or online. We can also provide work to do at home (as a paper homework pack and/or online exercises).
The lesson length and frequency would be discussed with any potential student and our teachers are experienced in teaching one-to-one, both online and in person.
Please be aware that One-to-One classes are not open to self referrals and all students need to be referred by a partner organisation. If you think one-to-one classes might suit you or someone you work with, or require any further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Here are some examples of students we have worked with, in a one to one format:
Almaz has two small children, no car and limited funding which made getting to a community class tricky. Our teacher goes to her house and provides tuition whilst the children are napping.
A Syrian family in Doncaster had mobility issues/disabilities, lived in a remote location and really struggled to make it to community-based classes. Our teacher visited this family and provided ESOL support to them over a period of several months.
R had complex learning needs and was unable to read and write in her own language. She was unable to access any form of group ESOL classes. Our teacher met with her for an hour each week to help her learn some basic vocabulary. R was incredibly isolated so we held the sessions in the central library to encourage her to leave her residence.
H has physical access requirements and mental health difficulties, making it very difficult for him to leave his residence and travel to a community class. Our teacher provided weekly one-to-one tuition online - so he didn’t need to travel anywhere.
It costs as much to deliver one-to-one tuition as it does to for us to teach a class of 12. It may not make financial sense for us to offer one-to-one classes, but we do, because we believe that there is value in every individual we come into contact with.
It's not about numbers in a classroom, it's about the impact learning English makes to the individual student.
If you believe, like we do, that everyone deserves the chance to learn English - whatever their circumstances - why not sign up to sponsor one of our students so we can offer one-to-one teaching to those who need it the most.
